A border province in the south-east of Iran with a lot of off-the-beaten-track attractions.

History

Based on some historical texts, Sistan’s name is derived from the word Sakestan or the land of Saka tribes. Saka tribes migrated to lands near Hirmand river about 2500 years BC.

This region is mentioned as the birthplace of Rostam in Shahnameh book.

Geography

This province is comprised of two regions which are different in terms of natural situations. Sistan in the north, on the plain of Hirmand river, and Baluchestan, a mountainous region between Lut Desert and Oman Sea.

The province has a long border with Afghanistan and Pakistan and neighbors South Khorasan, Kerman and Hormozgan provinces.

Climate

This province is under influence of different weather patterns, including Mansoon and Sandstorms. The temperature rarely falls under the freezing point.
