History
With a history dating back to Paleolithic era, Golestan region has been named as Varganeh (in Darius;s Inscription in Bistoun), Goorkan (in Pahlavi texts) and Estarabad (during Khashayarshah’s reign).
Geography
Golestan Province is situated between Semnan, Mazadandaran and North Khorasan provinces and borders Turkmenistan. The Caspian sea coasts are to the north-west of this province. Golestan has a green landscape and temperate climate.
Alborz mountains are located to the south of the province from west to east.
Climate
Golestan Province has a temperate and semi-humid climate. The northeastern parts have warm and dry weather.
The best time for visiting this province is autumn and spring.
