One of the three divisions of Great Khorasan, this province is located in northeast of Iran.
History
Archaeological findings in this province show a long history of human inhabitance in this area. Pahlavan archaeological site and Jajarm mound are about 12 thousand years old, and ancient remains like Espakhoo can be seen in this province.
Geography
North Khorasan has a border with Turkmenistan and neighbors Razavi Khorasan, Semnan, and Golestan provinces. The province covers both mountainous and plain areas. Its highest point is Mount ShahJahan which is 3051m high.
Climate
Most areas of this province have a mountainous arid climate. The best time for visiting North Khorasan is Spring and early autumn.
