History
Historical documents show Achaemenid civilization in this province. Access to the Persian Gulf has given an important role to this region. The name of the province is derived from Hormoz Strait, one of the most strategic straits in the world, connecting the Persian Gulf to the oceans.
Geography
Hormozgan is neighboured by Sistan & Baluchistan, Kerman, Fars, and Bushehr provinces. Zagros mountains end in the north-west of this province, continuing with hills and low lands until reaching the coastline. The province includes a number of islands, including Kish and Qeshm.
Climate
The province lies in a warm and dry region. Summers are warm and humid and winters are temperate in this region.
The best time for visiting this province is winter and early spring.
