One of the largest and most labyrinthine bazaars of the country was mostly built during the early 16th century, although some of it dates back almost 1300 years.

The main entrance is via the Qeysarieh Portal at the northern side of Imam Square.

This high gateway is decorated with tiles and higher up, frescos by the great Reza Abbasi, depicting Shah Abbas war with the Uzbeks.

In the bazaar, the distinctive domes and vaulted ceilings usually culminate in an opening, sometimes star-shaped, allowing shafts of light to spill in on the commence below. Trade is busiest in the mornings and you'll find souvenirs nearer to Imam Sq.
